Ruth awakes to find her familiar beloved husband has turned over the night into a stranger. The worry of awakening into a gloomy reality is in the core of this film, which focuses on Ruth’s confrontation with male presences which go in and out of her inner world.
Familiar Stranger describes a night in the life of Ruth, in which the peace is disturbed by a phone call from a charismatic male voice who carries a symbolic meaning for her. This voice fills her entire bedroom as if it was the voice of thought itself and raises the possibility that Ruth might be living within the twilight of her own thoughts and fictional scenarios. This leads to question whether the case is that of an objective either an internal reality.
