OM

Video, HD, 08:00 min, 2018

In the video work OM, Yasmin Davis appears as a creator of images; a magician, maker of illusions and trickery. Like in the act of sorcery, she explores the image created by a gesture of a hand, trying to grasp and hold the inconceivable, and what is in fact, a mirage.

The video examines the limits and limitations of the image, of the illusionary, and therefore, of the medium – the glass partition between the palms of her hands, on which the image (the reflection of her palm) is created, serves as a metaphor for the movie screen.

The existence of the reflection-image is limited and dependent on the physical hands, for, without them, it will disappear. Like in the act of sorcery, it is difficult to determine which is the physical organ and which is the “spiritual” one, in the same way it is difficult to determine whether sorcery is real, or is it the opposite, merely an illusion.
